Our Quality Promise

Our Quality Promise

Every batch we drop is something special.

• Great Taste Awarded - 2 Star

Dear Farmer Lakadong Turmeric was officially the first ever batch to be exported to the UK. It also carries a Geographic Indication (GI) tag, awarded by the Geographical Indications Registry of India (2024). This is a government-backed certification, the same class of protection given to Champagne, Parmigiano-Reggiano and Darjeeling Tea.

What does this mean for you?

  • Origin is verified. Only turmeric grown in the Lakadong region of Meghalaya can legally carry this name.
  • Quality is inherent to the land. Lakadong's unique soil and climate produce turmeric with naturally high curcumin content, typically 8–9%, compared to 2–3% in standard, supermarket varieties.
  • Judged among 10,000 other entries at the Great Taste Food Awards.

Think of it as a little passport of provenance so what's in your jar is the real thing.

• Batch-by-Batch Lab Testing

Every single batch of our turmeric is independently tested before it reaches you. We test for:

  • Pesticide residues - to confirm zero synthetic pesticide use
  • Heavy metals - including lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury
  • Curcumin content - to verify the potency you're paying for

• Indigenous Farming Over Organic Certification

You may have noticed we don't carry an organic certification logo.

Our turmeric is not 'certified' organic officially. Organic certification in India costs upwards of ₹50,000–₹1,00,000 per farm per year. Our farmers are family farms with small means and simply can't afford an organic certification yet.

Instead, our farmers use indigenous, pesticide-free farming methods passed down generations, long before the concept of organic existed as a marketing category. It means working with the land rather than against it. This is verified through our lab testing.

• Fair Farmer Economics

Quality starts with the people who grow it.

  • Pay farmers 15% above fair trade rates, mainly paying them want they want to be paid. We don't like negotiating lower prices with them.
  • Work directly with women-run processing facilities in Meghalaya and have expanded this as a blueprint for sourcing other ingredients like our Matara Cinnamon from Sri Lanka.
  • Maintain direct relationships with farming families with no middlemen extracting value
