4 Unusual Wellness Shots You Haven't Tried Yet

Go down the fridge aisle of any major UK supermarket and you'll find a wellness shot. They've become a morning staple for good reason. But most of what's on shelves plays it safe. I wanted to create recipes with a bit more personality, ones that are still easy to pull together at home with just a blender.

The thing about turmeric is that it's been a staple in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, so the wellness industry didn't discover anything new when it started cold pressing it into shots. Curcumin, its main active compound, has serious research behind it covering everything from inflammation and joint recovery to immune function and antioxidant support. What most people miss is that curcumin absorbs poorly on its own. It's essential to pair turmeric with some sort of fat substance.

With a few simple ingredients, you can make something that doesn't feel like medicine but tastes like it was actually designed to be enjoyed and happens to do a lot of good too.

1. Electric Pink Shot

The Recipe:

[makes 2 shots]

  • 1/4 cup Fresh dragon fruit (pitaya) or 1 tsp pink pitaya powder
  • 1/2 cup Fresh watermelon juice
  • 1 tbsp Lime juice
  • A tiny pinch of sea salt

🔬 The Science-Backed Benefit: Electrolyte & Hydration Support

Watermelon is more than 90% water and naturally contains potassium, an essential electrolyte. Adding a tiny pinch of sea salt introduces sodium. Together, these two minerals help your cells regulate fluid balance and rehydrate your body efficiently after a workout or a long day. Dragon fruit and lime add a modest dose of Vitamin C, which supports skin health and immune function.

2. Canyenne Mango Heat

The Recipe:

[makes 2 shots]

  • 1/2 cup Ripe mango puree
  • 1 inch Fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1/2 tsp Ground turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp coconut / olive oil
  • A generous pinch of cayenne pepper

🔬 The Science-Backed Benefit: Digestion & Anti-Inflammatory Support

Ginger contains a bioactive compound called gingerol, which clinical studies show physically speeds up stomach emptying, helping to ease indigestion and nausea. Turmeric contains curcumin, a well-documented anti-inflammatory agent. The capsaicin in cayenne pepper temporarily increases circulation and can mildly stimulate digestion.

3. Green Sour Patch

The Recipe:

[makes 2 shots]

  • 1/2 cup Tart green apple juice
  • A handful of fresh spinach
  • 2 tbsp Pure lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp Matcha green tea powder

🔬 The Science-Backed Benefit: Sustained Alertness & Iron Absorption

Matcha contains both caffeine and L-theanine, an amino acid. Clinical research shows that L-theanine slows down the absorption of caffeine, providing a steady state of alertness without the sharp spike and crash associated with coffee, similar to chocolate tea! The high Vitamin C content in the lemon juice significantly increases your body's ability to absorb the non-heme iron found in the raw spinach.

4. Lava Lamp

The Recipe:

[makes 2 shots]

  • 1/2 cup Pure coconut water
  • 1/4 tsp Blue spirulina powder
  • 1 tbsp Pineapple juice
  • 1 tsp Chia seeds

🔬 The Science-Backed Benefit: Antioxidants & Digestive Enzymes

Blue spirulina gets its colour from phycocyanin, a plant pigment that peer-reviewed studies have shown has strong antioxidant properties, helping cells defend against oxidative stress. Pineapple juice contains bromelain, a group of enzymes that actively helps your body break down proteins, aiding overall digestion. The chia seeds provide a small dose of soluble fibre to support gut regularity.

All recipes can be bulk made by scaling up the ingredients. Make sure to keep it stored in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 3 days. Let us know below if you've given these a go. Enjoy!
